Oh my goodness! Unless you are a Tree of Life developer, you really shouldn't be here. This page is part of our beta test site, where we develop new features for the ToL, often messing up a thing or two in the process. Please visit the official version of this page, which is available here.

Characteristics

Brachoria electa individuals are about 38.4 mm long and 9.4 mm wide (females 39.0 mm X 10.5 mm).  Color: Striped yellow (2.5Y 8.5/8); and striped yellow with small yellow metatergal spots medially.

Habitat

Brachoria electa specimens were collected during the day (13:00) from a maple, birch, oak, and tulip poplar forest.  Individuals were found in the small valley of Wildcat Creek, which runs into the Kentucky River.  One other xystodesmid encountered sympatrically at this locality is Apheloria virginiensis corrugata, which appears similar in coloration with B. electa.  Note: Individuals of B. electa may easily be confused in the field with A. virginiensis corrugata due to similarity in color patterns.

Distribution

Known only from the type locality in Anderson Co., Kentucky and one place, 23.76 km SE in Mercer County, KY, both sites of which are very close to the Kentucky River.  The closest known Brachoria species, B. calceata, co-occurs with B. electa at their type localities.

Conservation status

Brachoria electa is threatened by habitat loss due to agriculture (especially growing demand for paper products), coal mining, development, and the invasion of exotic species.

This page is a Tree of Life Leaf Page.

Each ToL leaf page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a leaf at the tip of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a leaf and a branch of the Tree of Life is that a leaf cannot generally be further subdivided into subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
