Oh my goodness! Unless you are a Tree of Life developer, you really shouldn't be here. This page is part of our beta test site, where we develop new features for the ToL, often messing up a thing or two in the process. Please visit the official version of this page, which is available here.

Yramea Reuss 1920

Niklas Wahlberg and Andrew V. Z. Brower
Containing group: Argynnini

Introduction

The genus Yramea is found only in the high Andes and south temperate region of South America. It remains somewhat of a biogeographic enigma, but recent phylogenetic work promises to shed light on the evolutionary history of this group.

Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships

Species belonging to Yramea were long thought to be related to species in the genus Issoria, and indeed Yramea species were often placed in Issoria. A recent morphological study (Simonsen 2006) showed that Issoria and Yramea are not sister groups, and a further study including molecular data (Simonsen et al. 2006) showed that Yramea is sister to the rest of Argynnini, to the exclusion of Euptoieta. The monophyly of Yramea has not been tested, but most likely this is a monophyletic genus.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
