Oh my goodness! Unless you are a Tree of Life developer, you really shouldn't be here. This page is part of our beta test site, where we develop new features for the ToL, often messing up a thing or two in the process. Please visit the official version of this page, which is available here.

Fuscocimex caecus Austin 2008

Andrew V. Z. Brower
Containing group: Carcharodini

Introduction

A monotypic genus described from three specimens collected near Cacaulandia, Rondônia, Brazil. The species is a medium-sized brown skipper, superficially similar to many other neotropical species.

Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships

Austin (2008) hypothesizes that Fuscocimex belongs to a group of neotropical Carcharodini including Cyclosemia, Morvina, Myrinia, Ocella, and Xispia, based upon the lack of a costal fold and a tuft of elongated scales near the base of FW vein Sc+R1. A formal analysis has not been performed.

This page is a Tree of Life Leaf Page.

Each ToL leaf page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a leaf at the tip of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a leaf and a branch of the Tree of Life is that a leaf cannot generally be further subdivided into subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
